Seed Pod Rubbings, 2022
Ten 14 x 18-inch drawings, charcoal on paper, acrylic on wall
There is a stark similarity between the grooves on the seed pods that fall from the Flamboyán tree, and the ridges of the scars left on my chest post gender-affirming surgery. My family and I gathered many seed pods across the island in the summer of 2021, and together we created charcoal rubbings of them. Seed Pod Rubbings features a series of these drawings encapsulated in a larger acrylic mural of the seed pod’s shape.
